Stephen: Good point! I don't have that many of them, but I'll get some up here when I get the chance.
Aww maaaan. Not one picture of a Twin Otter or a DC-3T?
Amazing photos, Antz... as always. Thanks for posting them in a public forum where my family can go to glimpse this place. Hoping to winter with you & C again some time.
Bruce, I know the exact spot you mean. It's easy to take one step too far if you aren't paying attention. The cross was taken down temporarily in 2004 too when it developed to a crack in the base and needed repairs.
The photo you took of Vince's Cross, Hut Point has a special memory for me. 1961 while wintering over the cross was was down after a storm. I was photographers mate trainee assigned to take pictures of it. While doing so I slipped and went over the edge. Got stunned when I landed on an ice ledge at the bottom but suffered no other injury,
Thanks, yes I am wintering again this year, the last flight out is in a few days from now.
Nice photos. I wintered at McMurdo in '69-'70. I was the Public Works mechanic at Willie Field. I'm still in touch with a lot of my friends who were there with me. I've passed along your website. I live in SE Michigan and saw an article on TV recently re. your work. Are you wintering this year? Should be getting near the time to close down the flights to the Ice. Again, nice photos. Brought back a lot of memories.
Is that bamboo?
