Antarctica Time Lapse Demo clip from 2006 Old time-lapse video filmed in Antarctica, in and around McMurdo Station and Scott Base. This was done purely as a demo to show the potential for time-lapse footage in Antarctica, and was an early precursor to my current feature film work. Each year the sun is below the horizon for 4 months in the middle of winter, and above the horizon for 4 months in summer. During the couple of months in between we have more-or-less normal days. Includes shots of auroras and the very rare polar stratospheric nacreous clouds, which form when ozone depleting gases crystallize in the upper atmosphere in the intense cold. Summer population is about 1200 people, winter about 130. Aurora Australis: The Southern Lights Time-lapse footage of the Aurora Australis, or Southern Lights. This is the Southern Hemisphere equivalent of the Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights. Filmed during the Antarctic winter in the general vicinity of McMurdo Station and Scott Base, where the sun is below the horizon for 4 months of the year. Most of the individual clips here were each taken over about a 10 minute period to give you an idea of how much they were moving in real time. Have a look at my time-lapse clip "A Year on Ice" for more Antarctic footage which includes other aurora clips in the winter section. Original footage is between 8 and 21 megapixel resolution, converted to 1080p Other clips are available on youtube here... www.youtube.com/Antzarctica The soundtrack music can be purchased here... http://www.amazon.com/Music-Darkened-Theatre-Vol-Television/dp/B000002P4P/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1237537635&sr=1-1

Group of adelie penguins begin to dive into the sea together to go fishing. They typically gather in large groups on the shore, then all jump in at the same time to reduce their chances of being eaten by an ocean predator.
The first of a group of adelie penguins dives into the ocean, while the others look on.
Adelie penguin and newborn chicks. There are actually two of them there, the one on the right has its head tucked in, the one on the left has its body tucked in. These chicks are only a day or so old.
